Dr. Che Jordan

Honored as Distinguished Global Healthcare Humanitarian and Pioneer Leader of the year 2024

Dr. Che Jordan

Dr. Che Jordan, the president of Ebony House Inc., has been honoured as the “Distinguished Global Healthcare Humanitarian and Pioneer Leader of the year 2024″ by CToday Awards. Since December 2022, Dr. Jordan has worked tirelessly to pay homage to the organization’s founders while expanding its reach and impact. “I was put on this planet to serve people,” he explains. “The disease of addiction and mental health challenges doesn’t take a day off, so neither do I.”

Inspiration from the Pioneers

From discussions with Ebony House pioneers, Dr. Jordan says his motivation to lead was born. One such board member for more than 45 years was Dr. Gene Blue. Dr. Jordan recalls being briefed by Dr. Blue on the historical struggles of the organization while trying to build services amidst an epidemic of drugs within African American communities. One of the most meaningful moments he had with Dr. Jordan was a brief conversation with Mrs. Elbertzena Fontinote, one of the founders of Ebony House, in her final days of life in December 2023. “Her vision, received from God, was to create a beacon of hope for those in the fight against addiction and mental health issues,” he adds. “Her compassion and the dedication to saving lives, person by person, are attributes that resonate within me and are carried into every decision I make.”

A Holistic Approach to Recovery

Ebony House’s programs address both immediate and long-term recovery needs, focusing on holistic support. The supported housing program helps clients transition back into the community after completing residential treatment. Services such as resume assistance, bus passes, and housing placement empower clients to regain stability and independence. “We prioritize trust and relatability,” Dr. Jordan explains. “Our alumni testimonials showcase the program’s effectiveness and inspire others to stay clean and sober.” Outpatient services provide individual and family counseling that extends beyond the first session. Ebony House also forms agreements with government agencies and local business partners and participates in the community’s events to create resource and educational opportunities to support not only individual recovery but also family wellness and community strength.

Vision for the Future

Dr. Jordan envisions immense growth for Ebony House within the next five years. Plans are to increase residential beds and supported housing services to graduate more clients out of the program into a stable life. It plans to create an emergency home for military veterans and individuals who live with HIV; these will be given rent-free houses for 30 to 90 days. It also plans to develop a central campus in which all services are provided in one location, hence all-rounded service to the community.

Recognition and Motivation

Ebony House received multiple awards in 2024, which include the Global Recognition Award by CToday Awards and feature stories in Business Insider Magazine and the Enterprise World Magazine. Dr. Jordan received personal honors as the Distinguished Global Healthcare Humanitarian and Pioneer Leader of the Year 2024. “This recognition inspires me to serve even more,” he says.

Advice for Aspiring Leaders

For leaders of the future, he emphasizes servant leadership, teaching them that “We are here to serve”; being patient, humble, and understanding are all in one’s way of bringing the change to others in earnest. Under Dr. Che Jordan, Ebony House remains steadfast in its quest for healing; it gives hope when no other seems possible.
