Dr. Manida Lau

Dr. Manida Xongmixay-Lau, CHP, serves as Vice President of Business Solutions & Member Experience at Okada Manila. She has also been honored as the “Most Impactful Woman Leader in Business Growth & Excellence – 2025” by CToday Awards. With more than 30 years of experience in various industries and nations, she is a visionary leader recognized for her flexibility, creativity, and transformational leadership in gaming and hospitality. Her skill set connects business and technology to ensure operational excellence.

A Journey Built on Passion and Growth

Dr. Manida started her career in the 1980s at the Grand Hyatt Macau when an internship with the PBX department resulted in a front desk clerk position—a stint that changed her mind from pursuing medicine to hospitality. A turning point during her career was when she joined HTH Corporation in Hawaii. As she worked toward her bachelor’s degree, she interned twice at HTH, which resulted in full-time employment in Human Resources. More than 15 years of experience in people management and operational leadership under her belt, she was also a life insurance agent and business college teacher. Returning to Macau in 2006, she was part of the opening of Integrated Resorts such as Venetian Macau and City of Dreams Macau, shifting her focus from HR to IT and Casino Marketing. She went on to play a pivotal role in opening Studio City Macau and City of Dreams Manila. Her extensive experience brought her to Okada Manila in 2016, where she is still spearheading excellence in massive operations.

Challenges, Defying Obstacles, and Leadership Principles

Dr. Manida had enormous challenges at the start of her career, especially in Hawaii, where English was not her native language. She initially found it difficult to voice her opinion but overcame that after attending a personal development workshop that enhanced her confidence and communication. This motivated her to engage in more leadership roles. Dr. Manida’s leadership is characterized by integrity, empathy, and accountability. She is inclusive, transparent, and collaborative, and creates cultures that make employees feel valued and empowered. Her vision and hands-on implementation always ensure success.

Driving Business Solutions and Success at Okada Manila

Dr. Manida heads the Business Solutions team in 2025, bringing business and IT together to maximize resources and enhance efficiency. She also manages the Quality Control and Telecommunications teams, maintaining high standards of service and smooth guest experiences. Her leadership and experience have made her a nominee for top awards, such as the Global Rising Star Awards and the Business Leader Awards with Fluxx Events. She also obtained the Certified Hospitality Professional (CHP) certification and was named a Top Expert in INOBAL’s Top 50 Experts initiative.

The Future of Hospitality and Advice for Young Professionals

Dr. Manida envisions the future of the hospitality sector to be shaped by technology with advancements such as cashless transactions, facial recognition, and eKYC verification. Yet, she stresses that human interaction cannot be replaced in developing outstanding guest experiences. She challenges young professionals, particularly women, to overcome societal constraints and have faith in themselves. She tells them not to dwell on perceived obstacles but concentrate on mindset, resilience, and self-belief. She further stresses the necessity of good responsibility management, delegation, and seeking help when required. Through her transformational leadership, Dr. Manida continues to influence the hospitality sector and challenge other people to achieve their best.
